What is a Piedog?
The distinguishing characteristic
from other mutts: these are PIED DOGS. They are spotted, patched, speckled and motley. They
are BLACK dogs, with genes for white markings, with at least 50% white or grey. (Note: some Piedogs have base colors other than black, e.g. red or brown.)

How Does God Create a Piedog?
The origin of many a Piedog
is shrouded in mystery. The appearance of a Piedog from unplanned romances most often include parents that are Labrador
retrievers, English setters & pointers, Australian shepherds & cattle dogs, German shorthaired
pointers, and spaniels. However, Piedogs have been found that have parents from many other breeds, some of which are
quite surprising.
What is not a Piedog?
A
Piedog is NEVER a purebred dog, but rather a wonderful happenstance variety of mutt.

WHITE
SPOTTING
In the organization
given by Little, the dog white-spotting gene has at least four alleles:
S
- wild-type si - Irish spotting sp - piebald spotting sw - extreme white spotting
The less dominant alleles
promote greater amounts of white spotting, as would be expected if the series represents increasingly greater impairment of
melanocyte growth and migration.
Since neural crest cells
form important parts of the nervous system of the inner ear and eye, animals selected for extreme white spotting, such as
Dalmatians, often have vision and/or hearing defects.
